Adolescence is a time of transformation: emotionally, socially, and mentally. At Words of Hope Counselling, we provide a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space where youth and teens (ages 12–19) can explore their feelings, navigate life transitions, and develop healthy coping strategies. Whether your teen is struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, school stress, identity exploration, or peer relationships, we’re here to help.
Our therapists build strong, trusting relationships with youth—meeting them where they are and offering tools to support their mental health and emotional resilience. Sessions are customized to each individual’s needs.
We also work collaboratively with parents and caregivers (with consent) to support the teen’s environment and growth.
Approaches for Teen Therapy
Talk Therapy – A supportive space for teens to explore their thoughts and feelings, process life experiences, and build insight through open conversation.
Creative expression (art, writing, storytelling) – For teens who express themselves more easily through creativity, we use art-based techniques to help them process emotions in non-verbal, imaginative ways.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy and Grounding Techniques – Strategies like breathwork, visualization, and body awareness help teens manage stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm in the moment.
Family Therapy – Helps strengthen family relationships and improve communication between parents and teens.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Strategies – Evidence-based tools that help teens recognize unhelpful thought patterns, develop problem-solving skills, and build healthier coping responses.
How do I know if my teen needs therapy?
If they are showing signs such as mood swings, social withdrawal, or academic struggles, your child might benefit from therapy.
Will my teen have to talk about everything?
Therapy is a safe space for everybody, especially youth and teens. Patients are encouraged to open up at their own pace and will never be forced to speak about anything they aren't ready for, or anything that makes them uncomfortable.
How long does therapy take?
Each person's therapy journey varies in length, and is focused on progress rather than timeline. You can speak with your teen's therapist about their individualized treatment plan.
Is teen therapy safe and confidential?
Yes! Teens need to feel secure in therapy. We respect their confidentiality, while also keeping their safety a top priority. We work with youth and families to clearly outline what can and cannot remain private, fostering trust and transparency.
As a parent, it can be difficult to know how to help when your teen is struggling. You might notice changes in their mood, behaviour, or communication—but feel unsure of how to reach them. Therapy offers a supportive and confidential space where teens can explore their emotions, learn healthy coping strategies, and build confidence during this critical stage of development.
At Words of Hope Counselling, we recognize that parents and caregivers are essential partners in a teen’s healing journey. While respecting your teen’s privacy, our therapists maintain open communication with you, offering insight, guidance, and support to help your family move forward together.
Whether your teen has asked to speak with someone or you’re noticing they’re struggling, reaching out is a powerful first step.
