Online Therapy Across Ontario

Why Choose Online Therapy in Ontario?

Virtual therapy is a safe, convenient, and flexible option for anyone seeking support for their mental health and wellbeing.

People choose online therapy over in-person therapy for a number of reasons, including:

Virtual Therapy

Convenience

You may want to skip driving or commuting to a physical location.

Greater Flexibility

Online appointments may be easier to fit into a busy schedule.

Finding the Right Therapist

Found a therapist you love but are too far away to meet them in-person? Online sessions can allow you to receive support from someone you truly connect with, regardless of distance.

For Parents

It may be easier for you to attend a virtual appointment without arranging for childcare.

Greater Accessibility

For those who live further away from our Barrie location, don't drive, or have other difficulties accessing in-person support, online counselling is an easy, comfortable, and hassle-free option to get the support you need.

Comfort and Privacy

Some people may have an easier time opening up at home than in an office. If you are new to therapy or feel anxious about in-person sessions, a video appointment may feel less intimidating than speaking to a therapist in-person.

Online therapy gives you the option to access support in a way that feels most comfortable to you.

Hope begins with the right support.

Virtual Therapy: Frequently Asked Questions

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes! Studies show that remote counselling is just as effective as in-person therapy. You will receive the same compassionate care and attention in online therapy as you would from in-person sessions.

How does virtual counselling work?

Online counselling allows you to meet with your therapist virtually from the comfort and privacy of your own space. Once you book your appointment, you'll receive a secure link to join your session at your scheduled time. You can connect using a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone.

Your online session will be similar to an in-person counselling session. You'll meet one-on-one with your therapist through a secure video platform, where you can talk about what's bringing you to therapy, work through challenges, and develop strategies to support your well-being.

All you need is a reliable internet connection and a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable talking openly.

What if I live with family members or in a shared space?

Your privacy and comfort during your therapy appointments matter. You may wish to communicate with family members, loved ones, or roommates ahead of time in order to ensure that your sessions remain private. Online therapy is also flexible to book, so you can coordinate your appointment to take place at a time when you know you will not be disturbed.

If you are concerned that someone may enter your space during your online session, feel free to discuss these concerns with your therapist. You may signify to your therapist with a simple hand gesture that the session is no longer private. In this case, your therapist will immediately turn their camera and microphone off until the session becomes private again.

Do you offer online counselling for couples, families, teens, and children?

Yes – online therapy is not just limited to individuals. At Words of Hope Counselling, we offer virtual counselling sessions to adults, couples, families, teens, and children. Is online therapy secure?

Yes. Our therapists adhere to strict privacy and confidentiality practices while conducting both online and in-person therapy sessions. We also host our virtual therapy sessions through a secure, PHIPA-compliant video platform.

What should I expect from my first session?

What you discuss in your first session is completely up to you. Some people come to their first therapy session with an issue they feel they'd like to dive into right away. Others have less of an idea of what they'd like to talk about, and that's completely okay. Your therapist may begin the session by asking you some questions about what brings you to therapy, what you're hoping to get out of therapy, and what your life situation is currently like. Before your first session, you may find it helpful to brainstorm why you've chosen to begin therapy and what you'd like to accomplish through your sessions.

Can I receive online therapy from anywhere in Ontario?

Yes. Online therapy at Words of Hope Counselling can be accessed from anywhere in Ontario, as long as you have a stable internet connection.
